The C-ASTRAL blended wing body W2007-IV series prototype flies for the first time
05. november 2007
The industrialized version of the C-ASTRAL blended wing body prototype W2007-IV flew for the first time in theC-ASTRAL test zone in Vipava under VFR conditions and with line of sight control. The flight marked the start of the aerodynamic and systems validation campaign that is ongoing.
C-ASTRAL family of prototypes and C-ASTRAL W2007-NVS presented to the Slovenian Ministry of Defence and the Municipality of Ajdovscina
15. october 2007
The C-ASTRAL W2007-NVS prototype, the C-ASTRAL design workshop and simulation and electronics workshop at the University of Nova Gorica and the ground control and sensor data gathering mobile station were presented during a live flight demonstration to the Slovenian Minister of Defence, Mr. Karel Erjavec and his cabinet, with the presence of the Slovenian Civil Defense heads. The flight, which lasted for more than 25 minutes, imaged the city of Ajdovscina and the Slano Blato landslide from a height of 200m AGL. The prototype landed autonomously 5m from its target. The flights were the first flights over urban space by a UAS in Slovenia and a NOTAM was issued for the campaign. The C-ASTRAL W2007-NVS prototype is the result of the work, conducted under the M2-01
The C-ASTRAL W2007-NVS makes two flights over the Danube river and industrial zone in Linz, Austria
08. september 2007
The C-ASTRAL W2007-NVS (Navigation Validation Sensors)
prototype flew over the city of Linz in Austria, on September 8, 2007.
Two flights were performed in a radius of 2km from the T/O point.
Mostly over the river Danube and the Linz Port/Industrial zone.
The flights were part of the manifestation ARS ELECTRONICA and managed
to image the visual targets set on the ground by the ?A portrait from
above? project, which was supposed to happen on the same day, but was
cancelled due to IFR conditions. The UAS system flew in IFR conditions
without any problems, transmitting live video and telemetry throughout
the flights, which were in non LOS conditions, due to the presence of
buildings and a low point of the T/O and ground control station zone.
C-ASTRAL W2007-X blended wing/body 0 series prototype to be univeiled on September 5, 2007.
31. july 2007
The new C-ASTRAL W2007-X blended wing/body 0 series prototype, that is currently under development, will be presented to the public at a for now undisclosed location on September 5, 2007. The UAS is expected to fly for the first time with the new avionics suite in October 2007 in the Vipava UAS flight test ground in Slovenia. The 2.3m wingspan UAS is expected to have an operational range of 25km and an endurance of 1 hour with a multispectral EO/IR payload system and high resolution geo-imaging capability.
C-ASTRAL W2007-X to be tested in Antarctic operations
10. june 2007
The C-ASTRAL W2007-X prototypes will be tested for flight in Antarctic conditions during the I-TASC 2: LICHEN International Polar Year operations in the Dronning Maudland of Antarctica. The prototypes are expected to perform experiments in crevasses search, SAR exercises and geo-imaging.
C-ASTRAL W2007-II flies over MBX and is presented to the visitors of the first UAS conference that took place in Maribor
01. june 2007
The C-ASTRAL W2007II prototype flew autonomously over
a series of 7 waypoints in the airspace around the MBX airport. The
prototype was equipped with a forward and side looking camera system
and flew within a radius of 1.5nm.
The flights took place as part of the first Slovenian UAS conference, organized by the Euroatlantic Council of Slovenia. Commander Mike Strong and UVS International?s P.V.Blyenburgh were present at the flight demonstration. The flight imaged the highway system, the aerodrome and some lakes around it.
Live video stream from the C-ASTRAL W2007-II prototype transmitted live to the GSSV (HQ general of the Slovenian Armed Forces)
28. may 2007
A medium resolution 640x480 live video stream was transmitted from the flying.
C-ASTRAL W2007-II platform equipped with a forward and side looking camera directly to the GSSV in Ljubljana from the test flight zone in the vicinity of the city of Vipava at 13.31 hours CET. The flight lasted for 20 minutes and demonstrated the capability of flight in extreme marginal conditions, with wind gusts up to 60km/h.
The C-ASTRAL W2007-II prototype accumulates 50 hours of test flights
14. march 2007
The C-ASTRAL W-2007-II prototype accumulated 50 hours of autonomous test flights without a single incident. Forward and side looking cameras in PAL resolution are now being tested on the platform. The UAS is launched from a ramp and recovered by a controlled flight landing.
Second C-ASTRAL W2007-II blended wing/body prototype flies autonomously
11. march 2007
The C-ASTRAL W2007-II prototype flew for the first time in an autonomous mode flight for 25 minutes. The electric powered UAS transmitted live video to the Ground Control Station for the duration of the flight.
